Abstract
Marjoram (Majorana hortensis L.) is one of Egypt's top agricultural commodities in terms of export, and numerous health benefits. Root-rot disease is considered one of constrains that affect marjoram production interms of quantity and quality. A survey was conducted in several locations within the Beni-Suef and Fayoum governorates throughout 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons to examine marjoram plants displaying root-rot disease symptoms. Infection percentages in Fayoum were higher than in Beni-Suef governorate during the both seasons. Several fungal species, such as Alternaria sp., Fusarium equiseti, Fusarium semitectum, Fusarium sporotrichoides, Macrophomina phaseolina, and Rhizoctonia solani, were isolated from diseased marjoram plants. R. solani and F. equiseti had the highest frequency means: 28.35 and 20.77% respectively. R. solani and Fusarium equiseti were the main causal agents of marjoram root-rot disease symptoms, pathogenicity test, and they recorded the highest percentages of disease severity: 56.0 and 44% while Alternaria sp., M. phaseolina, and F. semitectum and F. sporotrichoides showed the disease least severity: 6.0, 18.0, 20% and 22%, respectively. F. equiseti was recorded as a root-rot pathogen in Egypt for the first time. Molecular identification of F. equiseti was confirmed through sequence analysis of the ITS1–5.8S–ITS2 regions, and it was deposited in GenBank database under the accession number (OQ683782). Topsin M 70 fungicide, Kombucha, and certain Bio-agents were tested for controlling marjoram root-rot disease under greenhouse and field conditions. Topsin M 70 and Kombucha were the best treatments for controlling root-rot, and improvement plant growth.
